ZAR is a premium saffron brand designed to celebrate the richness of Persian culture through a modern lens. The goal of this project was to create a brand identity and packaging design that not only highlights the luxurious and delicate nature of saffron but also communicates authenticity, heritage, and elegance.From logo development to color palette and typography choices, every element was carefully selected to reflect the timeless value of saffron while appealing to a contemporary audience. The result is a sophisticated, minimal yet culturally rooted brand that stands out in both local and global markets.

ZAR’s brand strategy is built on the fusion of heritage and modernity. The core idea is to position saffron not just as a spice, but as a luxury cultural experience. By emphasizing authenticity, elegance, and Persian roots, the brand aims to connect emotionally with both traditional consumers and a new generation of global customers who value quality and story-driven products .The strategy focuses on three key pillars: Cultural Authenticity – Highlighting ZAR’s Persian origin through storytelling, visuals, and design elements that reflect the history and beauty of saffron Premium Positioning  Using high-end packaging, refined typography, and a sophisticated color palette to communicate quality and exclusivity. Modern Appeal – Blending minimal design with rich cultural cues to attract modern consumers who appreciate aesthetics, transparency, and meaningful branding .ZAR aims to standout in the global spice market by being more than a product it’s a symbol of tradition, beauty, and luxury.

Logo Design

 The primary logo features a custom-designed wordmark “ZAR” with elegant, elongated letterforms that blend modern minimalism with a subtle nod to classical calligraphy. The sharp angles and fluid curves symbolize both precision and beauty—reflecting the premium nature of the saffron brand.
The secondary logo presents a monogram-style design combining the letters “Z” and “R” inside a clean circle. This version is compact and versatile ,perfect for packaging seals, social media icons, and other small-scaleapplications while still maintaining the brand's identity.
The submark introduces a stylized saffron flower illustration entwinedwith organic lines, surrounded by the words “ZAR,” “SAFFRON,” “PREMIUM,” andthe year “1988.” This mark emphasizes authenticity and heritage, adding anartisanal touch that celebrates tradition and craftsmanship.

Color
Palette

Color plays a vital role in this saffron packaging design. The deep purple and rich red hues are inspired directly by the natural colors of the saffron flower itself — symbolizing authenticity and a connection to nature. Purple and gold have long been associated with royalty, luxury, and elegance, making them perfect choices to reflect the premium quality of saffron.
The soft yellow evokes the warmth and richness of the spice, while the muted lavender tone adds a sense of calm sophistication. Together, these colors not only honor the beauty of the saffron flower but also elevate the product’s cultural and visual identity.

Packaging

For the saffron packaging design, I didn’t just focus on creating a luxurious look — I also prioritized functionality and user experience. I chose a sliding drawer box for easy access, and added an inner wrapping paper to protect the saffron itself.
For the graphic elements, I created an abstract illustration of the saffron flower and used a combination of gold and purple on a black background to reflect the product’s premium quality. Since saffron is an Eastern product, I incorporated motifs inspired by traditional Eastern art to highlight its cultural heritage.
